Gotlandssnus AB was registered in 2002 and began producing/marketing small scale snus in 2003 Founder Henrik Jakobsson began to experiment with snus making in 2000 at home in his kitchen with old family snus recipes . Henrik developed a great interest in snus making thanks to his great grandfather Jakob Jakobsson who started producing Swedish snus in 1897.During the same time that Jakob was alive, there was a tobacco mill in Visby 1741-1844. Trivia: Jakob Jakobsson's middle name was not Jakob.
That just would have been too much, even back in the 19th century. By 2017, Gotlandssnus had finished slowly phasing out the Gotlandssnus products in favor of the popular Jakobsson's Snus brand. Jakobsson's Snus is generally sweeter than traditional Swedish Snus which has made it very popular in countries where sweetness is more the custom than salt.
